A1 Milk Vs A2 Milk- A Comprehensive Discussion

Milk is the best source of protein and vitamin for children for their growth and thus it is necessary to know the benefits of the milk that you are buying for your kid. There are two types of milk; A1 and A2, which come from two different cow breeds. However, the A2 milk type has a few more health benefits and thus people prefer the latter one over the other. It is said that A2 milk is easy to digest, so let’s find out the benefits of both types of milk through a comprehensive study.

Presence of Beta casein

The A1 type of milk contains A1 and A2 beta casein and makes almost 80% of the protein content of milk. On the other side, the A2 milk is a type of milk contained from specific breeds where it is a1 protein free. The A2 type of milk is a bit safer than the other one and thus it is highly appreciable.

The release of Beta Casomorphin 7

During the digestion of A1 milk an opiod peptide called Beta Casomorphin 7 or BCM 7 is released, which lowers down the digestion capability. So, the milk containing A1 protein is believed to be less healthy than the A2 low fat milk. According to some scientific reports, the BCM 7 is related to type 1 diabetes, infant death, regular digestion problems, heart diseases and autism.

Type 1 diabetes in children

The lack of insulin in the body of children is the reason behind type 1 diabetics and the A1 milk is possibly the prime reason behind that. Consumption of A1 milk can enhance the risk of such diseases and thus people nowadays prefer A2 milk over A1 milk.

The chances of higher heart diseases

A study has been performed for a long time on a rabbit to find out how A1 protein milk affects the heart condition. In the study it has been found that the rabbit consuming A1 beta casein are more prone of heart diseases compared to A2 milk. However, the risk on human is still not clear.

Digestion problem in infants

The A1 protein milk is difficult to digest and the absorption rate is comparatively low. This causes certain problems in children. The sudden infant death syndrome is likely to be the reason due to BCM 7, which is released during digestion of A1 milk. However, the study could not clearly state that BCM 7 is the only reason or not. On the flip side, high level of BCM 7 can increase the risk of sleep apnea in infants and can lead to breathing problems in infants during sleeping.
